We are in search of a highly skilled and motivated Senior Legal Advisor to become an integral part of our expanding environmental services organization. In this pivotal role, you will oversee a diverse array of legal and compliance issues, offering strategic legal guidance and supporting the operational framework of our firm. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders, ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
  • Establish efficient workflows for comprehensive contract and proposal evaluations, balancing acceptable business terms while minimizing legal and operational risks.
  • Collaborate with key partners to draft and disseminate company policies.
  • Provide legal counsel on environmental regulations, compliance challenges, and other legal matters pertinent to Apex's operations.
  • Manage employment-related issues, including the creation and assessment of employment contracts, addressing employee relations, and ensuring compliance with labor regulations.
  • Oversee the organization’s insurance program, encompassing risk management, claims handling, and vendor selection.
  • Lead a small team responsible for contract evaluations, offering guidance and oversight.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of external legal counsel engaged by the organization.
  • Stay informed on emerging legal and regulatory trends within the environmental services sector.
  • Develop a formal Risk Management policy to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor internal, external, and strategic risks in collaboration with other executives.
  • Work with the Talent team to identify employment and labor compliance risks and implement new policies to address them.
  • Participate in the review of acquisition-related contracts and legal due diligence.
  • Assist in the formulation and maintenance of corporate governance policies and procedures that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional legal and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications We Seek:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in good standing with a state bar association.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a legal advisor or attorney in a corporate environment, ideally within the environmental services, civil engineering, or construction sectors.
  • Extensive experience in drafting and reviewing contracts across various domains, including client services, vendor agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice on complex legal and compliance issues.
  • Familiarity with employment law, insurance, and risk management practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities effectively; strong leadership and team management abilities.
