We are on the lookout for a driven and seasoned Senior Legal Advisor to enhance our expanding environmental services firm. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing a variety of legal and compliance issues, offering strategic legal insights, and supporting the comprehensive operations of our firm. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating an array of agreements with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders, ensuring all compliance standards are met.
  • Creating an efficient workflow for thorough contract and proposal evaluations, ensuring favorable business terms while minimizing legal and operational risks.
  • Formulating and disseminating company policies in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Providing legal guidance on environmental laws, compliance challenges, and other pertinent legal issues affecting Apex's operations.
  • Managing employment-related matters, including drafting and reviewing employment contracts, addressing employee relations issues, and advising on labor law compliance.
  • Overseeing the company's insurance strategy, including risk management, claims processing, and vendor selection.
  • Leading a small team responsible for contract evaluations, offering mentorship and oversight.
  • Coordinating the activities of external legal counsel engaged by the firm.
  • Keeping abreast of new legal and regulatory trends in the environmental services sector.
  • Developing a formal Risk Management policy to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor both internal and external risks in collaboration with other executives.
  • Working with the Talent team to identify risks related to employment and labor compliance, implementing new policies to address these concerns.
  • Participating in the review of contracts and purchase agreements related to acquisitions, including legal due diligence.
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of corporate governance policies and procedures that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Carrying out additional legal and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications We Seek:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in good standing with a state bar association.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a legal advisor or attorney in a corporate environment, ideally within the environmental services, civil engineering, or construction sectors.
  • Extensive experience in drafting and reviewing contracts across various domains, including client services, vendor agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal counsel on intricate legal and compliance issues.
  • Knowledgeable in employment law, insurance, and risk management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research platforms.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities effectively; strong leadership and team management abilities.
