Position Summary: The selected candidate will engage directly with trading teams, focusing on the development, support, and enhancement of trading and analytical solutions through APIs, applications, and visualization tools. This hands-on position necessitates a strong independent work ethic, alongside effective collaboration with various IT teams.
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Information Technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with traders and analysts to assess existing platforms and trading models, developing software solutions that support commercial activities influenced by market dynamics.
- Lead the requirements gathering and design processes to enhance models, algorithms, data pipelines, and reporting solutions related to power flow and economic dispatch.
- Create cloud-native solutions that ensure seamless integration within the IT framework across diverse North American commodity markets.
- Oversee and refine trading models and data systems utilized by the trading team, focusing on power flow analysis and statistical simulations.
- Utilize analytical skills to identify enhancements in trading strategies and systems, exploring new datasets and tools for potential integration.
- Manage business deliverables by collaborating with cross-functional IT teams to support trade capture, financial analytics, and risk management.
- Ensure adherence to standard software development processes, including requirements definition and compliance with IT procedures.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering, or a related field, with substantial coursework or experience in programming and statistical techniques.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional programming experience in the commodities technology sector.
- Proficient in handling extensive datasets and market data.
- Experience in a front office environment supporting quantitative analytics is essential.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, Matlab, C++, .Net, or Java, along with familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools.
- Experience in cloud-based environments and DevOps frameworks, with knowledge of Microsoft Azure being advantageous.
- Familiarity with both traditional and cloud-based database systems, including SQL and NoSQL.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of users, from technical to non-technical backgrounds.
- A results-driven team player capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- A passion for technology and a commitment to staying updated with industry trends.
- A quick learner with adaptability to dynamic work environments.
- Excellent time management abilities.
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on programming experience in the power industry and familiarity with US ISO power markets is highly desirable.
- Experience with industry-standard power transmission analysis tools.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
- Familiarity with technologies such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and messaging systems.
