Job Title: Environmental Enforcement Attorney II

Join the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as an Environmental Enforcement Attorney II and contribute to protecting the environment and public health in Texas.

About the Role

This position is part of the TCEQ's Office of Legal Services, which provides legal counsel and support to the agency's programs and operations. As an Environmental Enforcement Attorney II, you will represent the Executive Director and the Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) in administrative enforcement litigation, ensuring regulated entities return to compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Executive Director at contested case hearings, agency agenda meetings, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Negotiate agreements and orders to resolve enforcement matters.
  • Assist OCE and the Office of the Attorney General in preparing cases for contested hearings or court trials.
  • Advise agency staff on legal matters related to investigations and enforcement.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions and briefs for longer-term projects or matters involving novel legal issues.
Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • Admission to the State Bar of Texas.
  • Three years of full-time experience in the practice of law.
  • Employment in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty.
