Position Overview

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Neutronics Analyst to contribute to our Used Fuel Management division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life environment with every other Friday off. Opportunities for hybrid work arrangements may be available. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of radiation transport computational tools essential for analyzing nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste, including criticality and radiation dose rate/shielding assessments.

In this position, you will engage in various nuclear engineering and research activities related to used fuel management projects, extending beyond analytical tasks. A comprehensive understanding of spent nuclear fuel facilities, including independent spent fuel storage installations, spent fuel pools, and canister/cask handling procedures, is essential. Familiarity with storage and transportation packages, canister and cask design systems, closure options, drying technologies, and advanced fuel types such as TRISO, metallic, and molten salt is also required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise across a diverse array of advanced nuclear reactor and spent nuclear fuel projects, including collaborations with the Department of Energy's Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition program and Technology Development activities.
  • Contribute to the publication of findings in customer-required reports and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in the preparation, peer review, and presentation of program plans and other activities associated with INL's spent fuel initiatives.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field, coupled with two years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same discipline.
  • Proficiency with Criticality/Radiation Transport Software, such as MCNP or SCALE/KENO.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of spent nuclear fuel facilities, including handling procedures and advanced fuel types.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive salary range: Level #1 starting at $63,000, up to Level #2 at $130,284. Compensation is determined based on education, experience, and credentials.
