Nuclear Fuel Analysis Specialist

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Neutronics Analyst to contribute to our Used Fuel Management division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, with potential hybrid work arrangements. The selected candidate will utilize advanced tools for conducting radiation transport computer analyses related to nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste, including criticality and radiation dose rate/shielding assessments.
In this position, you will engage in various nuclear engineering and research tasks associated with used fuel management projects, expanding beyond mere analytical responsibilities. A comprehensive understanding of spent nuclear fuel facilities, including independent spent fuel storage installations and spent fuel pools, as well as canister and cask handling procedures, is essential. Familiarity with packaging technologies and advanced fuel types will also be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide expertise across a wide array of advanced nuclear reactor and spent nuclear fuel projects, including collaborations with the Department of Energy.
- Contribute to the preparation and publication of reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.
- Participate in the development, peer review, and presentation of program plans and activities related to spent fuel initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same disciplines.
- Proficiency with criticality/radiation transport software such as MCNP or SCALE/KENO.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. citizenship.

- Knowledge of spent nuclear fuel facilities, packaging, and technologies, as well as advanced fuel types.
