The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Neutronics Analyst to contribute to our Used Fuel Management division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, providing a unique work-life balance with alternating Fridays off. Opportunities for hybrid work arrangements may be available. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of radiation transport computational analysis related to nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste, including criticality and radiation dose rate/shielding analysis.
The selected individual will engage in various nuclear engineering and research activities associated with used fuel management projects, extending beyond analytical tasks. A comprehensive understanding of spent nuclear fuel facilities, including independent spent fuel storage installations, spent fuel pools, and canister/cask handling procedures, is essential. Familiarity with packaging for storage and transportation, as well as advanced fuel types such as TRISO, metallic, and molten salt, is also required.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide expertise across a diverse range of advanced nuclear reactor and spent nuclear fuel projects, including collaboration with the Department of Energy's Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition program.
- Contribute to the publication of findings in customer-required reports and peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in the preparation, peer review, and presentation of program plans and other activities related to spent fuel initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field, accompanied by two years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same discipline.
- Proficiency with Criticality/Radiation Transport Software, such as MCNP or SCALE/KENO.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'Q' clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of spent nuclear fuel facilities, packaging, and technologies, including canister and cask design systems and advanced fuel types.
- Compensation for this position ranges from Level #1 at $63,000 to Level #2 at $130,284. Salary decisions are based on education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
