Position Overview:
The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in TRISO nuclear fuels within our Computational Mechanics and Materials division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, and is based at our Computing Collaboration Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth analyses of advanced nuclear fuels, particularly TRISO and layered-architecture fuels, utilizing the finite element fuel performance code, BISON.
- Develop and implement simulations that enhance nuclear fuel research capabilities.
- Create models tailored for nuclear fuels and materials, applying them across various reactor designs.
- Demonstrate the significance of simulations through diverse methodologies, collaborating with multiple programs and sponsors.
- Contribute to engineering projects addressing complex technological challenges in the field.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, computational science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline, completed within the last five years.
- Solid understanding of nuclear fuels and materials performance under irradiation.
- Experience with finite-element analysis and the BISON code.
- Proficiency in scientific computing languages such as C++, Python, and LaTeX, along with familiarity with MacOS/Linux and git.
- Strong communication skills for presenting scientific findings and contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative research and develop new skills in complex nuclear and material science models.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual Salary: $96,900
