Position: Laboratory Technician

Role Summary: The Laboratory Technician is tasked with the collection of urine specimens, ensuring the integrity and security of each sample while adhering to established protocols and regulations. This role reports directly to the Director of Lab Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting point-of-care testing using CLIA-waived devices.
  • Managing specimen handling, including accessioning, labeling, and aliquoting, while maintaining specimen integrity and identification.
  • Monitoring lab orders in client charts and performing tests as per provider instructions.
  • Implementing appropriate infection control measures, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to protocols in contaminated areas.
  • Utilizing various software platforms and electronic tools to ensure compliant lab testing, input client data, communicate with lab and treatment teams, and support the overall lab operations.
  • Consulting provider notes in client charts, coordinating the transcription of orders with the verbal orders team, and transcribing lab orders as necessary.
  • Ensuring schedules are accurate, collection information is communicated to the treatment team, and all orders are updated in client charts to reflect completion.
  • Maintaining HIPAA compliance by managing sensitive information appropriately and respecting client privacy.
  • Accessing the Laboratory Information System for sample management and client report retrieval.
  • Entering lab results into client charts through the electronic medical record system.
  • Notifying clinical and medical staff of abnormal lab results in accordance with policy.
  • Inputting billing information into client charts as per policy.
  • Disposing of chemical and biological waste in compliance with policy and regulatory standards.
  • Completing required daily and monthly lab maintenance logs and checklists.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, placing orders for supplies, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Transporting samples to the main lab for testing, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Exhibiting a high standard of professionalism and adhering to the LBHS Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License and insurance, with a willingness to travel.
  • Successful completion of BCI check, all Corporate Compliance checks, and employment drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
