Maine Conference United Church of Christ is in search of a Children's Ministry Coordinator to oversee Christian education for children aged 4 to 11. This role entails a commitment of 3-5 hours weekly, where the Coordinator will share responsibilities with the Pastor for the Sunday morning Children's Moment during the service and will primarily lead the Kids Church for the remainder of the service. The Coordinator will report to both the Christian Education Committee and the Pastor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review the provided curriculum to effectively teach lessons on Sunday mornings.
  • Prepare the Sunday school room by 9:45 AM on Sundays and organize materials for the lesson.
  • Welcome children after the Children's Time segment.
  • Attend worship until the Children's Time to facilitate a smooth transition to the classroom.
  • Accompany children from worship to the Sunday school room.
  • Engage children in Godly play through creative storytelling and ensure a joyful, enriching experience while teaching the curriculum.
  • Monitor the condition of facilities, equipment, and supplies, notifying the Christian Education Committee of any needs or concerns.
  • Adhere to and implement the Safe Church Policy of Maine Conference United Church of Christ.

Qualifications:

  • Experience or background in a Progressive Christian community.
  • Previous experience working with elementary-age children, ideally in a church or educational setting.
  • Able to connect with a diverse range of ages, races, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, neurodivergence, and LGBTQIA orientations.
  • Strong organizational skills and punctuality, with the ability to envision innovative approaches to engage children and families.
  • Must pass a background check and be CPR & First Aid certified, or willing to pursue certification upon employment (costs associated with certification may be reimbursed).

Compensation:

  • $150 per week for 3 weeks each month from mid-August to mid-June.
  • No responsibilities from mid-June to mid-August.
