Your Role


We are initiating a search for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This position offers the opportunity to engage in projects with our Earth & Environment division, contributing to a growing organization that addresses client needs and resolves challenges.


As part of our waste industry services team, you will focus on projects related to solid waste management, energy, transportation, stormwater management, infrastructure, and agricultural applications.


The ideal candidate will support a variety of functions, including but not limited to geotechnical design and analysis, civil engineering design, earthworks construction, piping systems, surface water management, erosion control, slope stability assessments, and landfill design and permitting.


Your Contributions


Under general supervision, you will assist in the collection, compilation, and analysis of data from various sources including physical work sites, soil, water, sludge, rock, and liner samples, surveys, GIS data, and subsurface information for project development and design.

Maintain quality control standards to ensure accurate and precise measurements.


Engage in fundamental geotechnical and civil engineering tasks related to both proposed and existing site conditions, encompassing subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, groundwater issues, and slope stability for various projects.


Perform routine geotechnical engineering functions and provide entry-level technical support on design requirements and operational strategies to ensure safety and functionality.


Assist in verifying site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on environmental, design, and construction matters, while investigating subsurface and geological conditions.


Generate thorough, accurate, and concise documentation utilizing electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.


Adhere to safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, and construction practices.


Complete training on assigned tasks and responsibilities.


Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.


Take on additional responsibilities as needed to meet business objectives.


Qualifications


- Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
- Strong research skills with an analytical approach.
- Familiarity with design and construction processes and concepts.


- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.


- Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively within a team to achieve business goals.
- Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).


- Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and anti-harassment policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules aligned with project requirements that may extend beyond standard hours.


Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Prior internship experience related to your field of study.
- Active participation in local professional organizations.
