Your Role


WSP is currently seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.

This position will involve participation in projects with our Earth & Environment Team, contributing to a growing organization dedicated to fulfilling client objectives and addressing their challenges.


In this capacity, you will be part of our waste industry services team, focusing on projects related to solid waste, energy, transportation, stormwater management, infrastructure, and agriculture.

The ideal candidate will support a wide array of areas, including but not limited to geotechnical design and analysis, civil engineering design, earthworks construction, piping systems, surface water management, erosion and slope stability, as well as landfill permitting and design.

Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality, client-focused work are essential. Some travel may be necessary.

Your Contributions


Under general supervision, you will assist in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources, including physical work sites, soil/water/sludge/rock/liner samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction.

Maintain quality control standards and procedures to ensure accurate and precise measurements.


Assist in performing basic professional geotechnical and/or civil engineering tasks related to both proposed and existing site conditions, encompassing subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability for various projects.


Conduct routine geotechnical engineering functions and provide entry-level technical support on diverse design requirements and operational strategies to ensure the safety and functionality of systems and infrastructure.


Assist in verifying site characteristics and offering basic technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction matters, while investigating subsurface and geological conditions.

Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs.


Adhere to safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, which include but are not limited to location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, surveys, and construction.

Complete training on assigned tasks.


Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications


• Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.

• 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.

• Strong research skills with an analytical mindset.

• Familiarity with design and construction processes and concepts.


• Effective interpersonal and communication skills for professional interactions.

• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.


• Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.

• Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.

• Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).


• Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and anti-harassment policies.

• Flexibility to work schedules that accommodate project-specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Engineer in Training Certification.

• Previous internship experience related to your field of study.

• Active participation in local professional practice organizations.
