Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will oversee the daily functions of the financial reporting team at Calpine Corporation. This team is tasked with preparing consolidated financial statements and specific statutory reports that comply with SEC reporting standards. The ideal candidate will possess management experience, a solid background in SEC reporting, and a comprehensive understanding of the accounting close process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, prepare, review, and ensure the timely submission of all SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and interactive data files.
  • Oversee the accounting for all debt and related transactions.
  • Supervise the preparation and timely completion of quarterly financial reporting schedules, including debt-related schedules, equity roll forwards, non-GAAP performance measures, and other analytical data.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly earnings releases.
  • While delegating certain tasks, the Manager must remain hands-on and actively participate in producing deliverables on schedule.
  • Support debt compliance reporting and undertake special projects as assigned by the reporting manager.
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of all SEC reporting responsibilities, balancing workloads among team members and regularly reviewing their work.
  • Resolve issues related to reporting and personnel, including technical research and deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with all relevant parties, including the accounting department, other internal departments, and external stakeholders such as attorneys and auditors.
  • Provide training for new hires and ongoing training for existing staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of their responsibilities.
  • Offer timely feedback and conduct performance evaluations for team members.

Technical Expertise & Decision Making

The role requires a seasoned professional with comprehensive accounting knowledge to perform complex duties. The Manager will make decisions related to scheduling, planning, and tactical approaches, impacting daily operations and small to medium-sized projects. The position also involves making technical decisions and addressing diverse problems that range from moderate to complex.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting.
  • Previous leadership experience in a professional setting.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the relevant field; CPA certification is preferred.
