Position Overview:
The Substance Abuse Program Counselor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients, delivering educational sessions, overseeing client activities, conducting assessments, providing individual counseling, managing crises, facilitating group sessions, transporting clients, documenting progress, and upholding the program's integrity and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to the policies and regulations set forth by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  2. Foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes recovery and self-sufficiency for residents.
  3. Deliver treatment for Substance Use Disorders, including intake, assessment, orientation, treatment planning, case management, intervention, counseling, and client education in compliance with DSHS standards. Maintain precise documentation of all client interactions in their files and CaseWorthy, ensuring secure records.
  4. Collaborate with staff and external agencies to provide a continuum of care for clients and facilitate appropriate referrals for specialized services.
  5. Supervise residents' self-administration of medication in accordance with DSHS and organizational policies.
  6. Conduct urinalysis and communicate results to the program manager and relevant personnel.
  7. Organize and oversee events for residents, providing transportation in program vehicles as necessary.
  8. Complete and submit reports punctually.
  9. Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses and certifications.
  10. Monitor and fulfill required duties related to Case-Worthy.
  11. Maintain regular communication with the Program Services Manager.
  12. Manage a caseload of ten clients, adhere to scheduled work hours, and report to work punctually.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Engage in ministry and prayer activities as appropriate.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: An Associate's degree or higher in Counseling or a related field is required. Candidates must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or possess an acceptable state license in a related discipline. A minimum of two years of experience as a chemical dependency counselor in an intensive residential setting is preferred. Certifications in CPR/First Aid and Crisis Intervention are necessary.

Skills:
Strong listening and interpersonal skills are essential, along with effective oral and written communication abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to interact positively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. A motivated, flexible approach with sound judgment and integrity is required. Team-oriented individuals who can manage moderate pressure are preferred.

Ability to work respectfully and professionally in a Christ-centered environment, maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients and staff while demonstrating a commitment to serving those in need.

Work Environment:
The role involves working in office, classroom, and residential settings, with potential exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, substance use, and various emergency situations related to the homeless population. Professional attire is expected, with casual dress permitted only on designated days when wearing program-branded clothing. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, with the expectation of working primarily during the day, including one evening and one Saturday shift per week. Local travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, and operating a motor vehicle. Clear speech, hearing, and vision are required, along with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and manage moderate loads.
