Position Overview:
The Substance Abuse Program Counselor is responsible for safeguarding client welfare, delivering educational sessions, overseeing client engagement, conducting evaluations, providing individual counseling, managing crises, facilitating group discussions, transporting clients, documenting progress, and upholding the program's standards of excellence and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the regulations, policies, and procedures set forth by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and other relevant authorities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of residents by fostering a supportive environment that promotes recovery and self-sufficiency.
- Deliver treatment for Substance Use Disorders, including intake assessments, orientation, treatment planning, case management, interventions, counseling, and client education in compliance with DSHS guidelines. Maintain precise documentation of all client interactions in the client file and CaseWorthy.
- Collaborate with colleagues and external agencies to guarantee a seamless treatment experience for clients and provide suitable referrals for specialized care.
- Supervise residents' self-administration of medication in accordance with DSHS and organizational policies.
- Conduct urinalysis and communicate results to the program manager and relevant personnel.
- Organize and oversee events for residents, including transportation to off-site activities as necessary.
- Timely completion and submission of reports.
- Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses and certifications.
- Monitor and fulfill required Case-Worthy responsibilities.
- Maintain regular communication with the Manager of Program Services.
- Manage a caseload of ten clients, adhere to work schedules, and report to work punctually.
- Engage in ministry and prayer activities as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: An Associate's degree or higher in Counseling or a related field is required. Candidates must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or possess an acceptable state license in a related area. A minimum of two years of experience as a chemical dependency counselor in an intensive residential setting is preferred. Certifications in CPR/First Aid and Crisis Intervention are necessary. Proficiency in administering drug tests and good computer skills are essential.
Skills: Exceptional listening and interpersonal skills, along with strong oral and written communication abilities, are required. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. A motivated, flexible approach, sound judgment, and integrity are crucial. Team-oriented individuals who can manage moderate pressure are preferred.
Work Environment: The role involves working in office, classroom, and residential settings. Exposure to various challenges, including infectious diseases and emergency situations, is typical. Professional attire is expected, with specific dress code guidelines in place. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including the possibility of local travel.
Physical Requirements: Candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, and operate a vehicle. Clear speech, hearing, and vision are necessary, along with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
