Educational Support Specialist

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must possess an associate's degree from an accredited institution or have completed at least 60 semester hours of college coursework from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with children within the last five (5) years is preferred.

ALTERNATIVE QUALIFICATIONS: A standard high school diploma or successful completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program is acceptable.

EXPERIENCE: Similar to above, a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with children within the last five (5) years is preferred.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Completion of the Teacher Assisting Curriculum at a designated technical college within the Broward County School District and a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment Test or other sanctioned standardized tests is required. Proficiency in computer skills is also necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) earned semester hours in Human Growth and Development and bilingual abilities are highly regarded.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. If assigned to an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classroom, assist with daily living activities, which may include:
  • Supporting personal hygiene and restroom needs, which may involve diapering or catheterization.
  • Providing mobility assistance, including lifting, positioning, or transferring students.
  • Assisting with activities related to seizure management.
  • Supporting feeding requirements, which may include suctioning.
  • Assisting with adaptive equipment needs.
  • Offering behavioral support, which may involve utilizing positive crisis management (PCM) techniques.

COMPENSATION: Hourly Rate: $16.00 – $21.91 per hour

CALENDAR: 188B

PAY GRADE: 13

NOTE: New hires will be compensated at the minimum of the assigned hourly range.
