Position Overview

The Paint I role involves preparing fire trucks for painting by performing tasks such as sanding, grinding, waxing, greasing, and applying body filler. This position requires inspecting vehicles for any flaws, dents, or imperfections, ensuring compliance with specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Utilize tools and equipment efficiently to sand, grind, and apply body filler to prepare the apparatus for painting.
  2. Conduct both dry and wet sanding on the fire apparatus's exterior.
  3. Mask off sections of the truck body and finalize preparations for painting.
  4. Refer to the specification book to ensure proper preparation and adherence to guidelines.
  5. Buff the apparatus to achieve a smooth, shiny, and polished finish.
  6. Apply wax and grease to enhance the visual appeal of the fire truck.
  7. Inspect the truck's body for any flaws, dents, or imperfections.
  8. Clean the exterior of the fire truck and remove compounds to prepare for customer inspection.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by management to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Autobody.

Required Experience:

  • No prior experience required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years in the autobody or industrial workforce.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to locate and process work orders within designated timeframes.
  • Proficient in reading a tape measure accurately.
  • Capable of identifying quality issues and making necessary adjustments in the production process.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions with a positive attitude.
  • Recognizes the importance of adhering to safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision and collaborates well in a team setting.
  • Understands the significance of attendance and punctuality in supporting organizational effectiveness.
  • Communicates project progress to the appropriate supervisor or shift lead.
  • Basic knowledge of air-assisted tools.
  • Able to pass the paint respirator test.

Working Conditions

This position is situated in a general shop environment where various tasks are performed. The shop lacks air conditioning, leading to humid and sometimes wet conditions, especially during summer months. Noise levels are moderate due to machinery operation, and there may be vibrations from equipment. Safety protocols are essential due to the presence of chemicals and fumes from paint.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing, walking, and the use of hands and arms throughout the shift. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds and may need to climb ladders or trucks as part of their duties.
