About the Position

The City of Cambridge Massachusetts is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Afterschool Program Lead Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our Human Service Programs department, you will be responsible for planning and overseeing programmed activities for children enrolled in our Community Schools Afterschool programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a quality age-appropriate curriculum in a specialty area for twelve-week sessions.
  • Directly supervise the safety of children and ensure a positive and supportive environment.
  • Supervise and guide other staff assigned to the classroom, promoting teamwork and collaboration.
  • Participate in all program activities, including snack and lunch periods, and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Communicate effectively with families about the progress of participants and provide regular updates.
  • Responsible for classroom maintenance, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
  • Report any out-of-the-ordinary incidents and accidents to program administrators, adhering to established protocols.
Requirements
  • At least one-year experience managing a Jr. K to Grade 5 classroom, with a strong interest in working with children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • First Aid and CPR certification highly desired, with training available upon hire.
  • The ability to work and interact effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud, with occasional field trips and outdoor activities.
  • Employees are frequently required to engage with children on the floor and at their eye level, with occasional lifting and/or moving of children.
