Overview:
Responsible for a range of technical responsibilities to assist in the preparation and care of patients prior to surgery. Ensures patient skin is prepped for surgical procedures in line with established hospital protocols. Upholds strict aseptic techniques and vigilantly observes situations that may compromise these standards. Provides emotional support and comfort to patients, respecting their privacy and care needs. Facilitates the transportation of patients to and from the Operating Room. Positions patients appropriately based on the surgical procedure. Manages biological specimens with care. Prepares the Operating Room by organizing tables, instruments, and supplies according to the specific requirements of each case. A High School Diploma and CST certification are mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Operates under the guidance of a professional nurse, executing all tasks related to direct patient care and assistance in the Operating Room before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • As the lead surgical technologist for a designated service line, provides leadership, training, guidance, and support to enhance operational efficiencies within that service.
  • Responsibilities include care preparation, understanding surgeon preferences, managing instrumentation, turnover times, and inventory control.
  • Engages in daily collaboration with the RN Service Line Coordinator.
  • Acts as a mentor and coach for new staff members.
  • Proficiency in scrubbing for three specialty areas, including but not limited to: Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, and Robotics, is highly desirable.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a Surgical Technology program is necessary. A minimum of 3 years of experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital or surgical center is required, with 5 years preferred. Experience in a lead tech role or a proven history as a Surgical Technologist is advantageous. BLS certification is required. Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting is essential.
