Certified Surgical Technologist

Position Overview: The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the outpatient surgical environment, working under the guidance of the Operating Room Manager and Registered Nurses. This position involves performing surgical scrubbing and assisting duties to ensure a sterile and efficient operative field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and care for all surgical instruments and equipment while ensuring the integrity of the sterile field.
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of sterile and aseptic techniques, as well as infection control practices.
- Demonstrate proficiency with all surgical equipment, instruments, procedures, and supplies utilized in the outpatient surgical setting.
- Uphold a professional demeanor and appearance, safeguarding patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Seek guidance and support when necessary to ensure optimal patient care.
- Assist in the preparation of the operating room, including cleaning and stocking, and contribute to the orientation of new staff.
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Population: The surgical services cater to a diverse range of patients, from adolescents to geriatric individuals requiring surgical interventions.
Physical Requirements: Candidates should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance. The role may involve exposure to various environmental factors, including unpleasant sights and odors.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a surgical technician program and possession of CST certification.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in surgical technology or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, essential for effective patient care and documentation.
- Basic computer literacy is required to perform essential job functions.
Quality Assurance: The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for ensuring the proper use of sterilization equipment and adherence to clinical policies and procedures. This includes conducting surgical counts and handling biohazardous materials according to established protocols.
