Summary of Responsibilities:

The Senior Property Accountant will oversee the general ledger accounting for a portfolio of six to ten properties. This includes balance sheet reconciliations, preparing monthly financial reporting packages, and collaborating with property and regional managers to ensure accurate financial execution.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze financial data for month-end and year-end close, including supporting schedules and work papers.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for a portfolio of properties, including financial statements and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger activities through journal entries.
  • Manage cash operations, including cash application and reconciliation.
  • Work closely with property and regional managers to ensure timely pre-close activities.
  • Engage with clients regarding property profitability and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Assist the accounting manager in reviewing financial information and bank reconciliations.
  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Facilitate the onboarding of new properties to ensure proper setup and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in training new associates as directed by the accounting manager.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in an accounting role is required.
  • At least three years of experience in multifamily property management accounting is required.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager or similar systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles in the multifamily property management sector is preferred.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Must handle confidential information with sensitivity.
  • Completion of Avenue5 Fair Housing, Diversity, and Inclusion Training within the first month of employment is required.

Scheduling:

Must maintain a regular schedule, which may include overtime, weekends, and non-traditional holidays.

Environment:

Typical office environment.
