The Production Engineer / Production Area Engineer employs a comprehensive understanding of unit operations processes and procedures to conduct analyses, provide guidance, plan, compile data, and collaborate with others to fulfill daily production targets.

This role entails evaluating the quality, robustness, and capability of the process, making collaborative decisions to halt or adjust production as necessary to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

The successful candidate must effectively interact with plant personnel at all levels to influence desired outcomes and cultivate an environment of collaboration, camaraderie, and commitment.


Key Responsibilities:
Lead production unit operations to uphold Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards.
Drive initiatives for Quality / Food Safety, Production, and Cost Improvement.

Provide technical assistance for specific manufacturing units, including performance metrics monitoring, OEE data analysis, troubleshooting, and investigating product quality concerns.

Oversee unit Process Safety Management (PSM) aspects, including Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
Champion safety efforts and continuously nurture a safety culture.
Offer unit subject matter expertise/process knowledge to all functions (e.g., Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, Quality, etc.).

Coordinate unit maintenance activities through the Work Management Process (WMP) in collaboration with the Maintenance Coordinator and staff.

Provide expertise during plant start-ups and shutdowns.

Establish effective communication systems throughout the unit focused on information sharing and engaging employees in the facility's success.

Perform job functions in accordance with food safety and quality guidelines, including HACCP, GMPs, QA Policies, Sanitation, and Pest Control.


Minimum Qualifications:
A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with over 5 years of experience in an industrial or process engineering role. Proven ability to collect and analyze data, identify solutions, assess risks, and make informed production decisions. Familiarity with Process Safety Management practices, including MOC and PSSR, and a commitment to strong safety standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft applications.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge of solids drying technologies, wastewater pH control, and wastewater solids processing.
Experience in capital project management.
Familiarity with environmental regulatory reporting.
Knowledge of Work Management Process and maintenance best practices.
Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
Proficient in key computer-based tools such as SAP, SharePoint, ETQ Reliance, and Lotus Notes.
Six Sigma Certification.

Preferred:
7 or more years of experience in a food manufacturing or chemical environment. A degree in Chemical Engineering is strongly preferred. A desire to grow and lead in a manufacturing environment.
