Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Project Manager to join our team at the Department of Toxic Substances Control. As a key member of our Office of Brownfields, you will be responsible for managing complex environmental investigation and cleanup projects under voluntary agreements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the development of environmental investigation and cleanup plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Review and evaluate the technical merits of environmental investigation work plans and reports, as well as environmental cleanup plans, pilot studies, risk assessments, and cleanup reports.
  • Communicate complex scientific concepts to project proponents, consultants, DTSC staff, public, and community members through various channels, including reports, meetings, and public presentations.
  • Conduct data analysis, data mining, and data presentation to support project decision-making and reporting.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Provide operational support to the Office of Brownfields, as needed.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Proven experience in project management of complex environmental investigation and cleanup projects.
  • Strong background in environmental investigation, evaluation, and characterization of contaminated properties.
  • Experience with environmental mitigation and/or cleanup of contaminated properties.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, data mining, and data presentation.
Working Conditions

This position requires a hybrid telework schedule, with two days per week in the office and a flexible telework schedule. The selected candidate will be expected to conduct face-to-face meetings, participate in operation-focused in-person meetings, and attend outreach events, as needed.
