The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. As a Senior Environmental Scientist, you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals and technical staff, consolidating analytical data, and preparing monthly reports and technical documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise professional and technical staff, ensuring the successful completion of projects and tasks.
- Consolidate analytical data and prepare monthly reports and technical documents, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Evaluate data reports for potential violations of established tolerances and alert regulatory agencies accordingly.
- Research new methods used by the section, review and perform statistical analysis of data results to ensure integrity of methods.
- Develop and inspire a high-performing team, promoting a positive and cooperative work environment.
- Manage program budgets, monitoring and controlling revenues and expenditures, and maintaining adequate instrumentation and supplies.
- Write specifications for laboratory equipment, explore and evaluate the need for new technology, and set up an instrumentation procurement plan.
- Act as a consultant for technical field personnel, providing guidance on sampling issues and procedures.
- Attend and present on laboratory methodologies at scientific and governmental meetings.
- Participate in internal and external meetings with clients, industry representatives, advisory boards, and other government agencies.
Requirements
- Sound personnel management and leadership skills, including the ability to manage teams and bring complex projects to completion.
- Ability to develop positive and cooperative working relationships and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with managers, other governmental agencies, stakeholders, and professional organizations.
- Education and experience in analytical chemistry and leading research projects.
Working Conditions
The duties of this job are performed indoors approximately 100% of the time. Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with the Department's Telework Policy. The employee's workplace is the CAC Lab in Anaheim, which has laboratory equipment necessary for performing the required analyses.
