Position Title: Senior Project Accountant

FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt

Role Summary: The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements, developing budgets, executing special projects, and collaborating with various levels of personnel within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Accounting:
    • Prepare and review general journal entries for both project and corporate transactions.
    • Allocate indirect costs to the lot level through journal entries.
    • Conduct monthly and quarterly reviews of lot-level gross margins to identify variances.
    • Prepare and review reconciliations for lots and record closing journal entries.
    • Manage monthly cost of sales entries and bank reconciliations.
    • Generate monthly GAAP financial statements along with supporting schedules.
    • Provide additional financial schedules for internal and external reporting packages.
    • Oversee monthly land bank option fees, trailing costs, and other recurring transactions unique to each project.
    • Prepare quarterly amortization schedules for prepaids and depreciation for fixed assets.
    • Facilitate monthly loan draws, requiring basic knowledge of construction phases.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly construction draws.
    • Support management during internal and external audits.
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of equity structures for joint ventures and assist with capital calls or distributions.
    • Conduct ad hoc reporting as necessary.
  • General Accounting:
    • Assist with general accounting functions for New Home Co. and its subsidiaries.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

Experience:

  • Preferred experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience is required.
  • Experience in the real estate sector is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.

Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $85,000 and $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.
