Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Chief Operating Officer to join our team at the County of Santa Clara Health System. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and directing administrative functions, activities, services, and staff to ensure the effective and efficient operation of our hospitals and clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve high standards of service excellence, community, and business relations, enhancing patient outcomes.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the general operations and related functions of the enterprise health system, maintaining conditions for effective and efficient operation of hospitals and clinics.
  • Leadership Development: Develop goals and expectations to enable staff to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care and services.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Staff Engagement: Manage and lead people, team build, connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups.
  • Accountability: Enforce accountability, develop and empower top-notch leaders from the bottom up.
  • Strategic Thinking: Think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
Requirements
  • Education: Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital Administration, Health Care Administration, or Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Approximately years of increasingly responsible experience in hospital management, a significant amount of which would have been in a senior management position in a health or hospital system preferably in a teaching hospital.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Healthcare Operations: The principles of health and hospital system organization and administration, including the principles of ambulatory service planning, organization, and delivery.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Regulations and laws common to the operation of hospitals and health systems in California, particularly those pertaining to ambulatory service reimbursement.
  • Business Acumen: Business acumen, including successful personnel and labor management.
