Position Overview

The Surgical Services Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring high standards of patient care and nursing practices within the surgical department, adhering to established guidelines and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Standard Setting: Collaborates in establishing benchmarks for patient care and nursing practices in the surgical unit, in compliance with industry standards.
  2. On-Call Duties: Participates in on-call rotations to guarantee continuous coverage for surgical procedures.
  3. Surgical Assistance: Acts as a surgical nurse during operations, providing essential support and care.
  4. Documentation: Accurately and thoroughly documents surgical records in accordance with professional standards.
  5. Record Maintenance: Ensures that all logs and documentation are current, precise, and securely maintained.
  6. Patient Recovery: Assists in the recovery of patients as required, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  7. Aseptic Technique: Maintains expertise in aseptic practices within the operating room and manages the sterilization of instruments as needed.
  8. Equipment Management: Monitors and ensures that all surgical equipment is functioning properly, identifying any issues promptly.
  9. Age-Specific Care: Provides tailored care for neonates, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, demonstrating an understanding of their developmental needs.
  10. Inventory Control: Oversees the inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring they are ordered and stocked appropriately.
  11. PACU Setup: Prepares the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with necessary supplies and conducts daily checks of emergency equipment.
  12. Patient Preparation: Conducts pre-operative preparations in line with physician directives, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed.
  13. IV Initiation: Initiates intravenous lines and ensures comprehensive pre-operative education and anesthesia assessments are conducted.
  14. Post-Operative Care: Receives patients from the operating room and initiates recovery protocols according to established standards.
  15. Patient Discharge: Assists in the discharge process for patients, providing necessary instructions and support.
  16. Additional Duties: Performs other responsibilities as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  17. Patient Assessment: Evaluates and interprets data regarding patients' conditions to identify their specific needs and provide appropriate care.
