The Surgical Nurse Specialist at RN-Staff is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the operating room and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting Standards: Participate in establishing standards for patient care and nursing practice in the surgery department, adhering to AORN and regulatory guidelines.
- OR Call Coverage: Ensure coverage in the operating room at all times, providing seamless care to patients.
- Surgical Nursing: Function as a surgical nurse for various procedures, demonstrating expertise and professionalism.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and complete surgical records, adhering to AORN standards.
- Logistics and Inventory: Ensure all necessary logs, information, and documentation are current, accurate, and preserved according to current standards.
- Patient Recovery: Recover patients as needed, providing individualized care and attention.
- Aseptic Technique: Maintain proficiency in proper aseptic technique in the operating room and autoclave instruments as necessary.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all equipment is in good working order, identifying and reporting any issues promptly.
- Patient-Centered Care: Provide care tailored to the needs of neonates, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
- Supply Management: Ensure supplies and equipment are inventoried, ordered, and stocked, maintaining a well-stocked PACU.
- PACU Setup: Set up the PACU, maintaining necessary supplies, stock drugs, and completing daily checks of emergency equipment.
- Pre-Op Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery, following physician orders and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed.
- IV Line Initiation: Initiate IV lines and complete pre-op teaching and anesthesia assessment, ensuring patients are prepared for surgery.
- Post-Op Recovery: Receive patients from the OR nurse post-op and initiate recovery according to accepted PACU standards of care.
- Transportation: Effect transport of patients to other units, providing comprehensive reports to receiving nurses.
- Discharge Instructions: Assist patients with discharge instructions, reinforcing their understanding and providing support.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Nursing Administrator, contributing to the smooth operation of the department.
Requirements:
