POSITION SUMMARY:
The Security and Safety Specialist (Corp/DC) at Ocean State Job Lot is tasked with safeguarding the well-being of our associates, visitors, facilities, and assets. This role is pivotal in implementing comprehensive security and safety protocols to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and uphold a secure environment. Responsibilities include protecting company assets, minimizing shrink across all operational areas, and ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Authenticate incoming trucks at the freight yard entrance, ensuring compliance with established protocols and effectively communicating with internal stakeholders.
  • Verify outgoing shipments to OSJL stores by cross-referencing documentation and truck seals, addressing discrepancies as necessary, and liaising with drivers.
  • Monitor surveillance systems and report any incidents promptly.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all asset protection, safety, and security inquiries.
  • Record all vehicle movements in internal tracking systems.
  • Respond to workplace incidents and emergencies to ensure the safety of OSJL associates and visitors.
  • Document all safety and security incidents in line with company policy.
  • Ensure compliance with OSJL policies and relevant laws, including safety regulations.
  • Utilize industry best practices to uphold accountability within the Asset Protection team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field, such as asset protection or security.
  • Proficient in using Google Workspace applications.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze written instructions and reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must obtain relevant certification within the initial employment period.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The work environment is characterized by temperature variations, noise, and the movement of equipment typical of a high-volume distribution center.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Engage in bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching activities.
    • Frequent movement in and out of buildings and around the freight yard.
    • Ability to alternate between stationary and active positions for extended periods.
    • Safely navigate ladders, stairs, and gangways.
