Chief Engineer

Position Overview:

The Chief Engineer is tasked with overseeing the comprehensive maintenance of the hotel infrastructure, which includes the building's structural integrity, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC units, and associated equipment. This role is essential in ensuring energy efficiency and adherence to preventative maintenance protocols. The Chief Engineer will also ensure that guest areas are consistently maintained to provide an appealing environment. Compliance with all purchasing policies and controls mandated by the management company, including the purchase order process, is required. Safety procedures for personnel and equipment must be strictly followed in accordance with company guidelines and OSHA regulations. The Chief Engineer will implement effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs and provide specialized training for other departments on the safe and efficient operation of hotel equipment and energy usage as necessary.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Property General Manager and the Area Director of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address maintenance requests and work orders from various departments, prioritizing based on urgency.
  • Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, and technical training of Maintenance Engineer Associates.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment in guest rooms, public areas, and all mechanical systems as required.
  • Manage the guestroom preventative maintenance program in alignment with company standards.
  • Perform thorough inspections of equipment, documenting conditions meticulously.
  • Facilitate departmental training on equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Communicate equipment status to the General Manager and/or Area Director of Engineering, ensuring proper functioning and safety through service sheets or direct communication.
  • Proactively monitor the overall condition of the property and its surroundings.
  • Foster a company culture that is understood and embraced by all associates.
  • Schedule weekly shifts for engineering associates.
  • Assist the General Manager with budgeting, forecasting, and departmental planning.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to all department associates.
  • Manage operating expenses effectively to minimize costs while maintaining high service levels and guest satisfaction.
  • Engage with vendors and service providers as necessary for engineering projects.
  • Perform any additional engineering or maintenance tasks as directed by the General Manager and Area Director of Engineering.

The hospitality industry operates continuously, seven days a week, and requires a commitment to a hospitable service atmosphere at all times. All associates are expected to comply fully with the operational rules and regulations established by the management for the safe and efficient functioning of hotel facilities.
