Overview:

This role involves executing both standard and complex laboratory tasks, which encompass specimen processing, testing of patient samples, result calculation and reporting, quality control procedure execution, and the upkeep of laboratory instruments and equipment. Additionally, this position may include phlebotomy and other patient-focused responsibilities, along with other related tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts all routine and complex laboratory tests relevant to the assigned section, considering age or sex-specific values.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, performing minor repairs or coordinating with biomedical services as necessary.
  • Participates in cross-training across various laboratory sections as required.
  • Ensures adherence to the laboratory's quality control protocols.
  • Calculates, inputs, and verifies laboratory test results.
  • Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively.
  • Documents and communicates critical laboratory findings promptly.
  • Handles patient specimens with care, including collection and processing, while being mindful of pediatric specimen volume requirements.
  • Engages in the assessment, development, and implementation of new or revised testing protocols.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in patient care responsibilities, catering to the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Adapts patient assessment and care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of each individual.
  • Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.
  • Completes all mandatory compliance and regulatory obligations and adheres to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
A.

Education/Skills: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as per CLIA regulations.

B.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program accredited by NAACLS or other recognized organizations. Alternatively, one year of clinical laboratory experience, including rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, is required.

C.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS is mandatory. New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible, with certification to be completed within one year of hire.


Work Schedule: 10PM - 7AM, 8-hour shifts
