Overview:

This role involves executing both standard and complex laboratory processes, which include specimen processing and management, testing of patient samples, result calculation and reporting, conducting quality control measures, operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment, contributing to the creation of new procedures and protocols, and may involve phlebotomy and other patient-related tasks, as well as performing additional duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:


• Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Conducts all routine and complex laboratory procedures in the designated section, ensuring compliance with age or sex-specific values.

• Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, performing minor repairs or notifying the appropriate personnel as necessary.

• Cross-trains in other laboratory sections as required.

• Ensures adherence to the laboratory's quality control program.

• Accurately calculates, enters, and/or verifies laboratory results.

• Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively.

• Notifies and documents critical laboratory values as needed.

• Processes patient specimens, ensuring proper collection, handling, and distribution, particularly for pediatric specimens when necessary.

• Engages in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new or revised testing procedures and protocols.

• Demonstrates the ability to perform patient care responsibilities that meet the specific needs of the patient population served by the department.

• Adjusts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to cater to the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.

• Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.

• Completes all mandatory compliance and regulatory tasks while following applicable policies and procedures.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR, including U.S. Military laboratory training courses of at least 50 weeks.

OR

  • Education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

B. Experience

  • No experience required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by NAACLS or other organizations approved by HHS.

OR

  • One year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including a clinical rotation through the following laboratory sections: Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last five years.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Must possess Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
  • If certification has an expiration date, it must be maintained and kept current.
  • New Graduates that are Board Certified or eligible must complete Board Certification within one year of hire, Louisiana excluded.
