Job Title: Director of Engagement and Development, Discovery Partners Institute

The University of Illinois Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Engagement and Development for the Discovery Partners Institute. This is a critical role that will be responsible for building and managing relationships with key stakeholders, developing and implementing engagement and development strategies, and leading fundraising efforts to support the Discovery Partners Institute.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive engagement and development strategy to build relationships with key stakeholders, including academic and civic leaders, philanthropists, and industry partners.
  • Build and manage a dynamic prospect pool, identifying and cultivating potential donors and partners.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support the Discovery Partners Institute, including major gift solicitations, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants.
  • Collaborate with the Discovery Partners Institute leadership team to develop and implement a strategic plan for the institute.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the University of Illinois Foundation and the Discovery Partners Institute, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with at least five years of relevant advancement or fundraising experience.
  • Minimum of five years of successful major gift fundraising or related career experience.
  • Results-oriented self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with changing priorities and sometimes moving deadlines.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Exhibits development program values of integrity, civility, collaboration, innovation, and impact.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in research universities or other large, complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Chicago business, civic, and philanthropic community.
