About the Role

The University of Illinois Chicago Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented development professional to join our team as a Director of Development. This pivotal role will drive fundraising efforts and build strong relationships with donors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of major and planned gift donors, employing strategies and tactics in prospect and portfolio management.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit alumni and friends in support of unit and University priorities.
  • Collaborate with the dean, department heads, faculty, and other key partners across Advancement and unit to build a compelling case for support.
  • Present the unit's funding opportunities articulately, persuasively, and with confidence.
  • Prepare and present proposals to prospects and donors, working with central communications and donor relations when appropriate.
  • Partner with unit leadership, Advancement colleagues, faculty, and volunteers to develop and promote compelling engagement opportunities and relationships with assigned prospects to maximize their financial support of the unit's fundraising priorities.
  • Facilitate and coordinate all communications with assigned prospects and among prospects' University relationships.
  • Track development activity and donor interactions by entering key interactions and strategies into the fundraising database.
  • Work closely with the director of portfolio management and researchers to review alumni/donor lists in order to identify donor prospects.
  • Assist with the preparation of unit-based events and participate in unit- and University-wide events at which alumni, friends, donors, and/or prospects are present.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven and successful experience in development or a related field, preferably in an institution of higher learning required.
  • Proven success in securing and conducting face-to-face meetings for major solicitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, business development, organization, and computer/PC skills required.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and fundraising software.
