About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Laboratory Specialist to join our team at the University of Michigan. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for leading laboratory research projects, developing and managing research experiments, and providing direction and ideas to team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee laboratory research projects, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Provide direction and ideas to team members, including identification of scientific problems, design of approaches, and identification of resources.
  • Prepare grant applications, including planning, budgeting, editing, and figure preparation.
  • Manage laboratory finances, including budgeting, tracking expenses, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of research data.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement research protocols, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with current scientific literature and best practices in laboratory research.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • 5-6 years of experience in laboratory research, including experience in project management, grant writing, and laboratory finance.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience with epigenetics, genomics, and cancer biology, including expertise in ChIPseq, RNAseq, RRBS, scRNAseq, and data visualization/analysis.
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 KO technology and other advanced laboratory techniques.
