Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting laboratory experiments: Independently and collaboratively design and manage research experiments, selecting the most appropriate methodologies. Analyze complex data from experiments to assess alignment with research objectives. Stay updated with current scientific literature to maintain a high level of professional expertise. Innovate techniques and experimental systems as necessary to achieve research goals.
  • Project oversight: Develop and supervise laboratory research initiatives in partnership with the Principal Investigator (PI). Provide strategic direction, including identifying scientific challenges, designing methodologies to address them, and managing resources for investigations.
  • Grant writing and financial management: Collaborate with the PI to prepare grant proposals, including planning, budgeting, editing, and figure preparation. Participate in budget discussions and resource allocation, ensuring effective assignment of personnel efforts to specific grants and projects.
  • Manuscript preparation: Collaborate with project leaders to write, edit, prepare figures, revise, and submit manuscripts for publication.
  • Monitor team progress: Track the progress of team members on their projects to ensure optimal productivity. Promote teamwork and ensure that all research team members maintain accurate and comprehensive records of experimental procedures, data collection, and analyses.
  • Training and mentorship: Provide training to all lab members, including staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, clinical research fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is mandatory
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in supervisory and financial management roles is essential
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques: PCR, primer design, cell culture, transfections, transductions, Western blots, cloning.
  • Ability to generate figures and assist in manuscript and grant submissions, providing scientific and writing feedback.
  • Familiarity with supply ordering, procurement, and laboratory management.
  • Strong publication history.
  • Proven capability to collaborate effectively and manage a high-performing laboratory team.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and statistical analysis software like GraphPad Prism.
  • Knowledge of laboratory policies and regulations, including safety, animal work, and radiation protocols.
  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaborative ability, and independent thinking are essential.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, resolving problems effectively.
  • High energy and drive to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including those led by other team members.
  • Tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate complex scientific equipment and develop and troubleshoot intricate experimental protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster productive cross-functional collaborations internally and externally.
  • Capacity to analyze both short- and long-term project needs and strategize long-term research directions.
  • Proficient in scheduling, managing, and coordinating multiple projects and priorities concurrently.

Desired Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field with 3 years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Expertise in epigenetics, genomics, and cancer biology is required. Proficiency with ChIPseq, RNAseq, RRBS, scRNAseq, and data visualization/analysis is strongly preferred. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 knockout technology is also highly preferred.
