Overview

This position is essential in protecting public health by enforcing air quality regulations and standards.
Role Responsibilities
As an Environmental Compliance Officer, you will engage with local businesses, particularly in the agricultural sector, to help them understand and comply with Federal, State, and Local air quality regulations. Your responsibilities will include inspecting pollution sources, drafting and administering permits, and managing programs aimed at reducing emissions. Your work will be crucial in ensuring compliance with environmental standards while supporting California's pollution reduction initiatives.

Environmental Compliance Officer I:
Receives general supervision from a lead officer.
Environmental Compliance Officer II:
Receives general supervision from a lead officer.
Environmental Compliance Officer III:
Expected to work independently, performing a full range of inspections and providing technical assistance to lower-level personnel.

Environmental Compliance Officer I:
Experience:
No experience is required.
Training:
An equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in chemistry, criminal justice, physics, engineering, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid State of California driver's license is required.
Environmental Compliance Officer II:
Experience:
Two years of technical inspection and enforcement work as an Environmental Compliance Officer I or in a related field.
Training:
An equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in chemistry, criminal justice, physics, engineering, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Completion of the CalEPA Basic Inspector Academy training course.
Environmental Compliance Officer III:
Experience:
Three years of technical inspection and enforcement work as an Environmental Compliance Officer, including at least one year as an Environmental Compliance Officer II.
Training:
An equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in chemistry, criminal justice, physics, engineering, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Completion of the CalEPA Basic Inspector Academy training course.
