Job Overview

Position Summary

The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing, evaluating, and coordinating the work of Environmental Aides to maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment within the healthcare facility. This role includes guiding the development and assessment of Environmental Services staff while ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained. The supervisor will also liaise with other departments to align activities and uphold departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of housekeeping practices, safety regulations, and infection control standards. A high school diploma is required, along with effective communication skills and a valid California Driver's License.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and refine cleaning protocols for various hospital areas, ensuring alignment with infection control standards.
  2. Train and instruct staff on the operation of new cleaning equipment and methodologies.
  3. Create daily work schedules that encompass routine tasks and special cleaning assignments, while anticipating staffing needs based on patient volume.
  4. Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to monitor compliance with cleaning standards and safety regulations.
  5. Provide recommendations regarding personnel matters, including attendance and work hours.
  6. Maintain accurate records as required by infection control guidelines.
  7. Design and uphold an effective staffing model for the department.
  8. Assist in compiling and maintaining statistical data and reporting systems related to departmental operations.
  9. Stay informed about industry trends and advancements to enhance departmental expertise.
  10. Uphold ethical standards while applying technical skills within the framework of hospital policies.
  11. Participate in special projects and research initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Management Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the overall operations and responsibilities of the Environmental Services Department.
  2. Exhibit a cost-effective mindset by analyzing equipment and supply purchases prior to approval.
  3. Propose, develop, and implement new policies and services while continuously seeking enhancements to existing practices.
  4. Allocate resources effectively to meet departmental productivity and quality objectives, with a flexible work schedule as necessary.
  5. Collaborate with Human Resources to recruit and select qualified personnel.
  6. Prepare performance evaluations in conjunction with the Infection Control Preventionist.
  7. Deliver constructive feedback through performance reviews, recognition, and disciplinary actions when needed.
  8. Encourage teamwork and unity among staff, fostering an environment that values diverse perspectives and effective collaboration.
  9. Maintain open lines of communication through meetings and regular updates.
  10. Establish a departmental Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Program in line with hospital standards, ensuring quarterly submissions to the Infection Control Preventionist.
