Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will possess the necessary expertise to underwrite, document, and manage a diverse portfolio of commercial loans, ranging from small to large enterprises. A strong background in business development is essential, as this role will require proactive solicitation of new business opportunities within the framework of the Bank's lending policies. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in roles such as Commercial Loan Officer, Credit Officer, or similar sales positions. This role involves working closely with both existing clients and potential customers to enhance business relationships. When suitable, the Commercial Banker will facilitate referrals to Bell's Mortgage, Wealth Management, Bell Investments, Bell Retirement, Private Banking, or Bell Insurance divisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct interviews with prospective clients seeking small to large business loans to assess the feasibility of their credit requests.
  • Analyze financial data to evaluate the creditworthiness of prospects and the viability of specific loan applications.
  • Negotiate terms for credit arrangements, including costs, repayment methods, and collateral requirements.
  • Prepare Loan Committee presentations and necessary documentation in line with established loan policies.
  • Present loan applications exceeding individual lending authority to the Loan Committee for review and approval.
  • Guide the loan documentation team and commercial lending assistants in preparing loan agreements.
  • Monitor booked credit facilities, reviewing interim financial data and supporting documentation, and assist in the collection of overdue payments.
  • Manage problem credits, implementing strategies to achieve agreed-upon objectives.
  • Engage actively in business development initiatives, with goals set during biweekly meetings.
  • Participate in community and civic activities.
  • Mentor junior lending officers throughout the credit extension process.
  • Foster personal connections with clients and colleagues, addressing them by name whenever possible.
  • Adhere to company values and customer service standards.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies regarding information security.
  • Prospect for commercial deposits, loans, and treasury management opportunities within established networks.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of direct experience in commercial lending, with a blend of analytical and underwriting skills preferred.
  • Experience in marketing to mid-market companies.
  • Solid understanding of loan documentation processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in technology and comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated sales and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage with potential clients who are not current customers of Bell Bank.
