ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Telecommunications Vertical Engineering team at AMD, part of the Datacenter Ecosystem and Application Engineering (DEAE) organization, is in search of a Senior Manager for Software Engineering. This individual will take charge of foundational development initiatives tailored for the telecommunications sector.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:
We are looking for an experienced technical leader with a minimum of 10 years in software development within the telecommunications domain. This position demands proficiency in performance engineering, optimization, open-source software, and system integration.

The successful applicant will be integrated into AMD's Data Center Ecosystem Engineering team, concentrating on internal solution development, customer interactions, proof of concepts (POCs), and the enhancement of silicon features through cutting-edge software development.

This role encompasses leading a dedicated team focused on creating telecommunications and communication software, addressing real-world applications derived from customer and field insights.

The ideal candidate should possess a passion for efficient software development, reliability, and scalability, along with a combination of technical expertise and robust leadership skills.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and Drive Telecommunications Enablement Roadmap: Create a strategic roadmap for empowering hardware, software, and solution providers to navigate complex telecom operator networks.
  • Customer Engagements and PoCs: Organize and oversee customer POCs and escalation engagements to ensure the adoption of AMD EPYC platforms and deliver customer value.
  • Open Source Adoption: Advocate for the integration of AMD and other software providers' features and operational performance within the open-source community.
  • Lead Initiatives: Identify essential telco capabilities and spearhead activities to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Partner with Internal and External Customers: Collaborate with stakeholders, leveraging industry knowledge, technical acumen, and leadership.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Proficiency in open-source libraries (DPDK, SPDK, IPSeC), software architecture, scalable IOV, and next-gen I/O strategies. Familiarity with Open vSwitch, OpenFlow, OpenStack, and strong programming skills in C, C++, Go, and others are essential.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:
Demonstrated capability to manage intricate projects and lead cross-functional teams. Excellent communication skills are vital for conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences. A collaborative mindset is necessary for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

STRATEGIC VISION:
Expertise in formulating and executing software strategies and roadmaps, along with a forward-thinking approach to next-generation I/O and data movement in complex computing environments.

PROBLEM-SOLVING AND INNOVATION:
Extensive experience in the telecom industry, with a profound understanding of how telecom operators design, build, deliver, monitor, and manage services. Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in production environments, are crucial.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
Experience in attracting, developing, and mentoring top technical talent, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a positive work environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Strong execution skills, excellent customer management, and familiarity with telecom workloads and technical knowledge are preferred.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, along with a minimum of 10 years of proven experience, is required. A Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications is also valued.
