Postdoctoral Researcher in Open Source Information Science

The University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Open Source Information Science. This position will work within the Department of Research Data Services at the Library and in collaboration with campus faculty on a project focused on open source discovery and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in network meetings, working groups, and campus collaborations, including travel to annual in-person network meetings.
- Develop a community-informed survey instrument for evaluating open source products, perceptions, and practices within the UC community.
- Coordinate across UC campuses the delivery of the survey and explore the potential for integration into periodic reporting.
- Conduct survey data analysis, report, and publication writing. Share research instruments and findings across UC campuses to facilitate local efforts to understand the open-source landscapes.
- Collaborate with the Discovery Working Group on contribution and verification of data from survey methodologies into UC ORB (Open Source Repository Browser).
- Conduct research into UC open-source software citation: Research the current status of open-source citation and collaborate on algorithms for extracting software citations. Conduct data analysis, report, and publication writing.
- Collaborate on the comparative evaluation of methods for assessing the status of open-source products.
- Identify model pathways towards sustainability, including but not limited to technology transfer, fee-for-service models, open-source community formation and maintenance, and archiving/containerization.
- Support the development of OS curation best practices and sustainability resources for system-wide implementation.
- PhD in computer science, information science, sociology, or a closely related discipline, at the time of application.
- Applicant's PhD must have been awarded within the last 5 years.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis, preferably using R or Python.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience with coding/algorithm development.
- 1+ years of experience/familiarity with open-source principles and practices.
