Position Overview We are seeking a passionate leader to oversee our Infrastructure & DevOps team. This role is pivotal in collaborating with various departments, including product development, engineering, legal, and IT, to enhance the platform that supports our intelligent personal training system. You will tackle complex challenges in developing foundational infrastructure for a unique consumer fitness solution while implementing tools and technologies that elevate developer efficiency. You are a proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic, agile environment and consistently delivers high-quality results. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the deployment and upkeep of critical infrastructure systems and tools that support Tonal's backend services and facilitate application development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Tonal, including Engineering, Data Science & AI, Product, Security, and Legal, to gather requirements and prioritize initiatives.
  • Lead a team of 3-6 infrastructure and DevOps engineers, assisting them in overcoming technical challenges, prioritizing tasks, and fostering professional growth.
  • Create and maintain roadmaps and project plans that provide transparency into the team's activities and share these with leadership in Software Engineering & Data Science.
  • Enhance the efficiency of Tonal's backend architecture through effective monitoring, alerting, and cost-saving strategies.
  • Oversee the team's on-call schedule and support the resolution of real-time errors.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on DevOps and/or infrastructure engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in team management, demonstrating the ability to mentor and guide team members.
  • Driven leader with a track record of managing infrastructure projects from inception to completion in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to independently solve problems with minimal oversight.
  • Expertise in automation and creating reusable solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, particularly with tools like Terraform.
  • Experience managing containerized environments (e.g., EKS, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker) and utilizing AWS cloud services (IAM, EKS, RDS, EC2, etc.).
  • Familiarity with architecting, configuring, and deploying CI/CD pipelines using GitOps practices and tools such as Github Actions, ArgoCD, and Argo Workflows.
  • Understanding of best practices for monitoring and alerting on cloud-based microservices (e.g., Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Loki).
  • Experience managing cloud-based relational databases (e.g., AWS Aurora Postgres).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and cloud security solutions, including identity and access management (e.g., Auth0, Okta, Vault).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities and calmness under pressure, with strong communication during incidents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Familiarity with Emissary Ingress/Envoy.
  • Experience with data-intensive applications and analytics, using tools such as Airflow, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Interest in the fitness industry.
