Job Overview

Position Title: Field Service Mechanic

Department: Service Operations

Reports To: Service Manager/Shop Foreman

Position Summary: This role requires a skilled technician with journeyman-level expertise. The individual will operate under the guidance of the Branch Manager and collaborate closely with the Shop Foremen. Daily work assignments and schedules will be provided, and the technician will be responsible for executing tasks as scheduled while managing all necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct repairs on customer equipment at their locations.
  • Complete required field reports, track travel time, and log hours worked on various jobs.
  • Prepare for service calls by loading necessary materials and parts for on-site work.
  • Maintain accurate log books if operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections of the service vehicle before departing the shop.
  • Engage with customers on-site, providing them with field reports and updates on job status.
  • Communicate any issues or complications encountered in the field to the Branch Manager or Shop Foremen.
  • Diagnose problems and carry out repairs effectively.
  • Assess customer equipment to identify any additional repair needs.
  • Execute repairs with efficiency and precision as outlined.
  • Tag and save parts according to factory warranty protocols for warranty repairs.
  • Compile a list of parts needed for repairs.
  • Interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and diagrams.
  • Inform the Service Manager or Service Advisor of any additional work required or if items on the service order are unnecessary.
  • Notify the Service Manager or Service Advisor if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Perform shop work when field service tasks are finished.
  • Keep the service vehicle organized and clean, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of vehicle parts.
  • Stay updated with factory training, technical tips, and service bulletins.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, reporting any safety concerns or incidents to management.
  • Achieve a daily billable average of 90%.

  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Ability to detect hazardous fumes.
  • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • Possess a Commercial Driver's License Class A or B.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Two to five years of mechanical experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
