We have an opening for an Electronics Design Engineer specializing in Space Exploration Electronic Systems within our Engineering Division.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager, collaborating with a team of over 55 Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
  • Work as a Team Lead or directly with Electrical Engineers on assigned projects.
  • Support the entire design process from conception, analysis, and manufacturing to operational testing and deployment.
  • Provide design guidance and support in various aspects of Electronics System Development.
  • Familiarize yourself with NASA specifications for electronics.
  • This role requires on-site presence at project locations, five days a week.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications: This position is available at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience and business needs, we may consider applicants at any level.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Typically, a bachelor's degree in Engineering is expected, and a related master's degree or higher may be preferred, along with 2 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience with Analog, Digital, and Power electrical schematic entry and PCB layout tools is essential.
  • Proficiency in system testing and troubleshooting electrical systems is necessary.
  • Familiarity with anomaly investigation and root-cause failure analysis is preferred.
  • Experience in generating electrical procedures is advantageous.
  • Collaboration with other disciplines is expected.
  • Knowledge of power analysis, spice simulation, and derating cables/PCB is beneficial.
  • Understanding of system requirements and verification/validation processes is important.
  • Experience in analog circuit design for space applications and schematic capture using Altium is required.
  • Background in system engineering and environmental testing is a plus.
  • Previous experience leading an electronics design engineering team and mentoring others is preferred.
  • Familiarity with JSC standards and processes is advantageous.
Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of data interface protocols and associated hardware such as Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, I2C, SPI, etc.
  • Experience with system hardware testing tools such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with mathematical modeling and algorithm development in MATLAB.
  • Understanding of hyperlynx and power budgeting.
  • Experience in Power and Digital circuit design.
  • Knowledge of in-line EEE parts selection and configuration management.
  • Proficiency in version control software like Subversion (SVN).
  • Strong skills in MS Office programs, particularly Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Work Environment:

The role typically involves an office environment but may include both indoor and outdoor work depending on specific tasks.

Physical Requirements:

The position may require sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may involve lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of the time).

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.) will be used.

Attendance:

Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical, with the ability to adjust to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
