Position Overview:
The Avionics Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the development and testing of avionics systems within the aerospace sector. This position is suited for individuals with a background in spacecraft or aerospace engineering, particularly those holding US citizenship or Green Cards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide design and testing support for various avionics development projects.
- Assist in the management of spacecraft fault systems.
- Collaborate with design teams on the selection of Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) components, connectors, and harness designs.
- Support Systems Engineers in maintaining baseline test configurations and documenting any changes.
- Manage procurement processes by submitting purchase requisitions and maintaining parts inventory records.
- Generate and maintain essential design documentation, including EEE parts derating assessments and Bills of Material (BOM).
- Work alongside design engineers to create procedures for analysis and verification testing of flight hardware, including environmental tests.
- Document essential paperwork for assigned tasks, such as Task Performance Sheets and Discrepancy Reports.
- Engage in hardware troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical and electrical failures.
- Collaborate with electrical technicians to build and test designed systems.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the design, assembly, verification, and operation of space hardware.
- Familiarity with System Engineering and formal engineering methodologies.
- Proficient in connector selection and wiring schemes for control systems.
- Experience with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
- Ability to operate in an electronics lab and perform troubleshooting tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Atlassian documentation tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with robotic systems, particularly manipulators.
- Proficiency in using hand tools for assembly and troubleshooting.
- Prior experience in hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.
- Experience in cable design and analog instrumentation systems.
- Knowledge of NASA Quality operational procedures.
