Job Overview

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Meet the qualifications for the role of Residential Support Specialist, including the ability to lift weights of 70-75lbs.
  2. Utilize approved safety techniques to ensure the well-being of clients and staff; engage with youth who may pose risks to themselves or others.
  3. Assist the Program Manager in various capacities, including:

a. Ensuring adequate staffing levels during disruptions; maintaining client care and activity schedules.

b. Keeping data sheets updated and accurate.

c. Participating in in-service training to deliver quality services to clients; assisting with staff training as required.

d. Overseeing the daily operations of the residential facility in the absence of the Program Manager.

e. Engaging in the Interdisciplinary Team process when staffing allows; providing insights and writing necessary reports.

f. Carrying out additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager.

  1. Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop individualized programs for clients based on their Individual Plan of Service.
  2. Work alongside various consultants (e.g., Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist) to ensure compliance with recommended services as directed by the Program Manager.
  3. Exemplify positive behavior as a role model for clients and staff (e.g., in manners, attire, and communication).
  4. Engage in all staff meetings to enhance service delivery to clients.
  5. Support the organization in fostering positive community relationships.
  6. Familiarize oneself with the organization's policies and procedures, ensuring adherence.
  7. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized program site, including daily cleaning tasks as directed by supervisors.
  8. Provide supervision to staff while fulfilling the staffing requirements.
  9. Participate in on-call duties with the manager to address staffing issues and any arising concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.

2. Certification in CPR and First Aid is required. Additionally, candidates must

obtain Medication Administration Certification within four months of hire and maintain all necessary certifications.

3. Demonstrated organizational skills.

4. Effective communication abilities with adults who have developmental disabilities.

5. Capability to supervise and guide other staff while representing the Program Manager.

6. Ability to uphold clients' privacy rights and comply with confidentiality policies.

7. Knowledge of current trends and issues in the field of Developmental Disabilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

1. A strong motivation and commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the individuals served.

2. An interest in contributing to a multidisciplinary teaching approach.

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's Degree, or an Associate's Degree with one year of experience in the Human Services field, or a high school diploma/GED with two years of experience in the Human Services sector.
