Columbia, South Carolina, United States Integer Technologies LLC Full time

Company Overview

Integer Technologies LLC is a leading organization focused on applied research and product innovation, established by a team of dedicated scientists and engineers committed to advancing technology and enhancing national security. Our work involves extensive research and development on cutting-edge systems and technologies for the Department of Defense (DoD) and various U.S. Government entities, transforming theoretical research into practical solutions with significant military and commercial implications. Our primary research areas encompass power and energy systems, unmanned systems (particularly in maritime applications), digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

Our power and energy systems initiatives are pivotal in supporting the DoD's transition to electrified platforms, including naval vessels. Our research encompasses hybrid and electric propulsion systems, large-scale energy storage solutions, power conversion technologies, autonomy, digital twin simulations, and integration with mission-critical systems to ensure rapid and reliable power system responses.

Position Summary

The role of the Electrical Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer necessitates a robust background in real-time simulation of electrical power systems, power conversion technologies, electric machinery, and control systems. The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of the multi-domain physics governing power system components and be adept at maintaining virtual models of physical systems for applications such as health monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics, and advanced control strategies. The Electrical HIL Engineer must be capable of identifying critical features and dynamic behaviors of physical systems across electrical, thermal, and mechanical domains, and developing accurate computer models that reflect these essential characteristics and behaviors.

A successful applicant will have hands-on experience with controller hardware-in-the-loop (CHIL), where the controller of a physical power system operates control application code in conjunction with a real-time power system model. Additionally, proficiency in power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) testing is essential, involving the evaluation of real power hardware at full-scale power and voltage levels through the use of power amplifiers interfacing with the simulator.

The candidate must exhibit a growth-oriented mindset, continuously enhancing their knowledge and skills to stay at the forefront of technological advancements. Organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial, as this role may require interaction with clients whose requirements are often evolving and complex; thus, strong communication abilities are highly valued.

Integer Technologies LLC is dedicated to solving intricate challenges that currently lack established solutions. To meet both internal and client project objectives, all candidates must engage in research, assimilate new concepts from various engineering disciplines, and document their findings in a manner that is accessible to non-experts.
