Role Summary

As the Director of Sterile Processing Department (SPD), you will hold the key responsibility for overseeing the operations of the Central Sterile Processing Department. This includes managing staffing, budgetary considerations, customer service, and operational efficiency. You will ensure compliance with rigorous infection control protocols for the decontamination, sterilization, storage, and transportation of medical equipment, as well as the management of sterile supplies and instruments throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the planning, organization, development, coordination, management, evaluation, and direction of daily operations within the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and generate reports to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Direct and evaluate ongoing departmental activities and initiatives.
  • Manage the hiring, orientation, training, and retention of SPD staff, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and appropriate staffing levels.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget, focusing on cost containment and inventory management.
  • Revise departmental procedures and evaluate current and new products, devices, and equipment.
  • Set and implement departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and deliver in-service education programs for staff.
  • Stay informed about current trends in sterile processing and communicate relevant information to the team.
  • Participate in infection control, safety, and quality assurance programs; attend relevant seminars and workshops.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of systems related to Instrument Tracking, Case Cart, Patient Charging, Materials Management, and Budgeting as they pertain to the SPD.
  • Ensure compliance with established departmental policies, objectives, quality assurance programs, and infection control standards.
  • Actively pursue cost-saving initiatives and strategies.
  • Coordinate the introduction of new products and technologies.
  • Demonstrate performance improvement in clinical care, customer service, operational processes, and safety.
  • Exhibit financial responsibility through effective resource management in daily operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, preferably in Education or Healthcare.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in sterile processing operations.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct management experience in a sterile processing environment.
