PRIMARY ROLE

The Senior Accountant will evaluate and communicate financial information while supporting the team with data, systems, and processes related to accounting functions. Key focus areas include financial reporting, revenue management, month-end closure, and internal controls. A meticulous approach, thorough self-review, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset, along with a passion for our mission, are essential for this role.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the month-end closing process and reconcile assigned accounts and systems.
  • Prepare presentations for staff and board members, coordinating internal reviews and feedback on drafts.
  • Support various projects as assigned for the team and board of directors.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of major systems, serving as a point of escalation for internal inquiries.
  • Exhibit proficiency in IT, data analysis, and dashboard reporting, ensuring accuracy in calculations, postings, and reports.
  • Oversee benefits and payroll systems, including bi-weekly reviews and management of outsourced payroll services, ensuring compliance and data integrity.
  • Manage customer interactions with outsourced benefits and payroll consultants.
  • Maintain contract templates utilized by the fundraising team to ensure compliance with pricing and legal standards.
  • Support internal controls by regularly assessing process integrity and updating written procedures.
  • Manage cash investments in accordance with the investment policy approved by the board, maintaining a thorough understanding of investment status.
  • Assist leadership and staff in interpreting and implementing existing and emerging regulations relevant to Operation Warm.
  • Collaborate with the team to respond to both internal and external inquiries.
  • Contribute positively as a team player, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Identify and propose enhancements to drive operational efficiency.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one discussions.
  • Exercise sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions.

  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, and/or enterprise systems is advantageous.
  • Able to work collaboratively with team members as well as independently.
  • Professional demeanor suitable for engaging with board members, donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel occasionally, both locally and nationally.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2-5 years of experience in a public accounting firm.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
