The Pactiv Evergreen Kalamazoo Converting Facility is strategically located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, providing convenient access to the scenic Great Lakes region and major cities.

Established in 1952 and employing a dedicated team, the facility specializes in printing and die-cutting refrigerated gable top cartons for various national and regional brands, primarily delivering essential dairy nutrition to schoolchildren throughout the country.

Responsibilities:

Role Overview:
As a key leader, you will oversee the operations of a team of Machine Operators.

We are currently seeking Process Technicians at our Kalamazoo location.

Key Responsibilities:
Inspect and package products, rotating through production lines as directed by the Team Leader.

Work independently while collaborating with line technicians and other team members to ensure that the products being packed are defect-free and meet the quality standards established by the Pactiv Evergreen Quality Department.


Shifts:
Days from 5:20 PM to 5:30 AM, with three paid breaks (four during summer).

Schedule Overview:

Week 1 :
Monday (work), Tuesday (work), Wednesday (OFF), Thursday (OFF), Weekend (work) totaling 48 hours.

Week 2:
Monday (OFF), Tuesday (OFF), Wednesday (work), Thursday (work), Weekend (OFF) totaling 36 hours.

Week 3 :
Monday (work), Tuesday (work), Wednesday (OFF), Thursday (OFF), Weekend (work) totaling 48 hours.

Week 4:
Monday (OFF), Tuesday (OFF), Wednesday (work), Thursday (work), Weekend (OFF) totaling 36 hours, and so forth.

In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and enhancing manufacturing results and engineering processes as part of the OPS Extrusion or Solid Sheet Thermo-Forming Process team.

This hands-on position requires knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processing, and troubleshooting.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:
Providing on-call after-hours engineering support as required for 24-hour plant manufacturing processes.
Establishing, coordinating, and directing process improvement initiatives for Extrusion and/or Thermoforming.
Offering technical operations support for manufacturing challenges. Developing and leading process-improvement initiatives to address specific issues as they arise.
Creating OEE and Quality improvement plans in collaboration with the plant Leadership Team to meet Pactiv targets.
Assisting in the development of the capital budget project pool.
Fostering the development of technical talent within the team.
Providing technical support to Changeover teams to optimize efficiency.
Leading the team in completing safety awareness topics and working towards reducing triggers for unsafe behaviors. Addressing safety-related issues and leading investigations on safety topics.
Utilizing the Plan, Do, Check, and Adjust methodology for managing daily improvements (MDI).
Identifying opportunities for improvement and generating ideas for annual plant operational enhancements.
Employing lean methods (Kaizen) for process improvements and providing daily coaching for sustainment.
Using operational data to make informed decisions daily.
Applying metrics for accountability to track improvements or identify areas needing enhancement.
Providing engineering support and resources to sustain plant production, including assisting with maintenance of plant facilities and production equipment.
Supporting operations in developing Operator & Sr. Operator Specialist skills.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
  • Ability to create and adhere to written procedures related to tooling/equipment changeovers, checklists, maintenance, repair, storage, and housekeeping.
  • Must be self-directed and dependable.
  • Must maintain an acceptable work and attendance record.
  • Must successfully complete Senior Operator Specialist certification.
  • Must effectively communicate and interact with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting process issues swiftly and accurately in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to provide off-shift technical support when necessary.
  • Ability to develop and audit process training materials and manage operator qualifications training matrix.
2-3 years of plant experience in technical and supervisory roles is preferred.

- Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of plant operations and maintenance with a strong emphasis on safety.
Experience with Lean Methodologies or Continuous Process Improvement is desired.
Technical expertise should include process support and hands-on knowledge of large-scale Plastic extrusion and/or thermoforming with demonstrated results.
